Warning – This is the funniest article I’ve written all year!
Let’s get to it…
So, you want to RULE #1 on the search engine results page (SERP) for your target market, or as we marketers say “your niche market” and “Kick Your Competition OFF The 1st Page“, do ya???
That is really an ideal goal, wouldn’t you say!
Can it be done?
Well, that is something that would have to be determined at time of analysis, but frankly, yeah, it is possible.
Heck, anything is possible!
So what would it take?
…Hold on to your hats because that is my current mission for some local townies in a new clients project
See, the competition really changes when you “go local”. Most of us are so used to looking at big national and international websites, that we kinda forget what the “local” scene looks like. When was the last time you looked at a local business website and said to yourself “yep, that’s a local site“? … point being is that the game is EASIER in typical scenarios.
(I’m going out on a limb by making such a bold claim, but it is based solely on my own opinion. Keep in mind the “web” is not everything… even though I believe there are those who would beg to differ on that too).
Back to what I was going to tell you about…
Most cases you will find that their is SLIM:ZERO actual optimization… even when the person that did the site says it is (this will not haunt me later).
Honestly I’d be afraid if someone like me was working for my competitors in a “local only” niche. Just because I’ve got all day every day to strategize and develop plans for taking people out (their websites that is) only amounts to part of it though.
OK, let’s look at some basics so you can get on with your day.
As you may or may not know, there are 3 main ways to get traffic to your website. Those three ways are:
- Build
- Buy
- Borrow
What this means is -
- You can Build out web sites and web site pages;
- You can Buy advertising spots, banner ads, PPC, CPA and other initial type spends and;
- You can Borrow from affiliates, JV’s (joint ventures) and other types of partners relations.
Now all you have to do is look at these and discover
“Where In Your Business Can You Implement, Maximize and Leverage Each of These Points”?
Will it take time? Yes, probably!
Will it cost some money? Yes, probably (and, yes, time is money too)!
Will it be worth it? Yes, with out a doubt, you better believe it!
